Durante mucho tiempo, los medios de comunicación en masa han sido objeto de crítica al ser relacionados con la divulgación de contenido violento y, en general, por no aportar mucho a la sociedad. No obstante, desde los inicios de estos en territorio colombiano se han podido apreciar algunas de sus bondades en el medio académico. En esta oportunidad conoce más de la radio y la televisión y sus aportes a la educación colombiana.
Los inicios de los medios de comunicación en masa en Colombia
El primero de mayo del año 1954 Colombia presenciaba algo que cambiaría su historia desde ese momento en adelante. Gustavo Rojas Pinilla se dio la tarea de traer el primer televisor al país, se estaba gestando una primera transmisión televisiva desde la capital Bogotá, hasta Manizales. Para lo cual, Rojas Pinilla, el presidente de aquel entonces ya había importado equipos desde Alemania y Estados Unidos.
Apenas un mes después, los afortunados que tenían uno de estos aparatos en casa fueron testigos de la primera transmisión a nivel nacional, el Canal Uno en aquél momento llevaba el himno nacional a todo el país. A paso lento, pero seguro, la televisión colombiana tomaba forma y emergieron más emisoras televisivas, y con el pasar de los años las pantallas a blanco y negro se fueron llenando de color para ofrecer una experiencia mejorada.
Poco a poco, la televisión se convirtió en parte de la cotidianidad de los colombianos y comenzaron a integrarse programas de todo tipo. Y se fue dando forma a la denominada “televisión educativa”.
Por su parte, los inicios de la radio en Colombia tuvieron origen en 1929, años más tarde, en 1940, surge la emisora radial Radio Nacional de Colombia, una emisora que según su propio sitio web procuraba enseñar, difundir información y fomentar la colaboración entre los ciudadanos.
La televisión como instrumento para la educación
Durante muchos años se planteó la posibilidad de convertir la televisión colombiana en un medio para la educación. Dadas sus cualidades divulgativas, representaba una excelente manera de brindar apoyo educativo a la población. Considerando esto se dio forma a lo que se conoce como Televisión Educativa.
La Televisión Educativa fue un intento por luchar contra los bajos niveles de escolaridad y los altos índices de analfabetismo en Colombia. Por muchos años constituyó un apoyo para los profesores de primaria y tuvo su auge en los años 80. Fue entonces cuando empezaron a ser transmitidos programas de contenido educativo variado.
Programas como Hacia la ciencia, Descubro mi mundo y Lecto-Escritura, cambiaron la forma en la que las personas percibían la televisión, y brindaban un apoyo educativo a la población con mayores índices de analfabetismo. Estos programas brindaban formas de educación orientadas hacia determinadas temáticas, y aportan información de interés para jóvenes considerados para el momento como analfabetas.

Evolución de la educación en la televisión
La idea de la educación televisiva no es nueva, de hecho, expertos en pedagogía en Estados Unidos han encontrado en la televisión un medio idóneo para la divulgación educativa. Hasta hace algunos años incluso, Estados Unidos, Reino Unido y Francia eran países que tenían un servicio regular de televisión educativa.
Aunque el concepto fue altamente exitoso en su momento, la popularidad del mismo fue mermando con el pasar de los años y con la entrada de nuevas tecnologías como el internet. No obstante, los intentos por hacer resurgir la televisión educativa no han disminuido.
En Colombia por ejemplo, nuevas formas de educación televisada han surgido con el pasar de los años. La motivación por este tipo de educación se mantiene vigente y es por eso que iniciativas como la franja educativa y cultural de Señal Colombia así como Aprende TV, son medios que procuran mantener la vigencia de estas estrategias.

El buen uso de los medios de comunicación
Desde el momento de su llegada a Colombia, la televisión se convirtió en una herramienta informativa innovadora. Muchos colombianos se vieron favorecidos con una forma de entretenimiento que era cuando menos, muy interesante. La entrada de estrategias educativas a la televisión fue el más claro indicador de que la televisión más allá de entretener e informar también podía educar.
Para muchos el estudio de la televisión educativa es una de las propuestas más interesantes que han podido surgir. En particular porque representa una forma muy prometedora de hacer llegar la educación a personas, especialmente jóvenes, quienes estén sujetos al analfabetismo.
Esto demuestra que la televisión es una herramienta maravillosa, siempre que se le asigne un propósito de utilidad. Mientras más personas accedan a estos artefactos y surjan nuevos métodos de enseñanza televisados, definitivamente valdrá la pena explorar las posibilidades que esto ofrezca.
